What's new in JuicyType 1.0.1

September 26, 2026 · macOS and Windows

JuicyType 1.0.1 is the first 1.0 release. It adds a new Round corners setting for your letters and improves Raise by color, Cracked and Cubes. It also brings a large round of polish and fixes to the Windows panel.

3D

  • Raise by color draws the 3D extrusion under the stack again, instead of letting a taller layer's sides cover it.
  • Each raised layer in Raise by color now stands on the base, with its sides running from its face all the way down.
  • Raise by color on flat artwork with solid fills now stacks the layers in the right order.
  • In Raise by color, each color layer's sides now take the layer's own color when the extrusion panes are set to gray.
  • Settings that would have started at zero now start visible: 3D Stroke when you turn it on, a newly added extrusion layer, Raise when you tick it in the Face view, and Push blocks when you switch them on.
  • Reset 3D and a fresh 3D apply now start from a single extrusion layer, with 3D Stroke (in black), Repeat extrusion and Color ramp all off.

Panel

  • The Face view has a new Round corners setting that rounds the letters' own corners before every other effect.
  • In PANTONE search, the ink you type exactly now comes first, so "185" lists PANTONE 185 C before 10185 C.
  • When Illustrator saves a snapshot or flavor PDF without its page content, JuicyType now removes the empty file and tells you why and what to do.

Cracked

  • On logos and other artwork, Cracked now spreads the pieces outward smoothly instead of opening a blank hole around the impact point.
  • Turning Impact point off now cracks from the center and keeps your custom X and Y for later, and Reset Cracked turns Impact point back on.

Cubes

  • With Apply per cube › Slice on, Pattern Slice's Graduated ramp now runs inside each cube instead of once across the whole word.
  • Apply per cube › Slice is grayed out while Pattern Slice's Scope is set to Everything, and its tooltip explains why.

Wobble

  • Wobble no longer has its own Rounded corner setting, because rounding the letters now lives in the Face view.
  • Wobble's Edge texture checkbox is gone.
  • The Wobble heading's tooltip now describes the section's edge texture and ridges.

Halftone

  • Applying Halftone no longer turns off Face fill.

Strokes

  • The Gap and Line value boxes now have a little space between them.

Shape

  • The "Split on space if two words" tooltip now describes what actually happens: the word splits at the space and both words stay on one line.

Windows

  • The applied effects strip has a new design, with six tiles to a row and each effect's name under its icon.
  • In the applied effects strip, the current effect's name shows in pink and bold, and disabled effects are dimmed.
  • The effects drawer grays out effects that can't be applied.
  • In the color chooser, the picker stays in place and only the swatch list scrolls, including with the mouse wheel.
  • The color chooser remembers your list or grid view, the PANTONE section and the swatch display choices.
  • The color chooser has a Swatches eye button beside the list/grid switch.
  • Tab applies a value and moves to the next value box, and Shift+Tab moves back.
  • A typed value with stray characters after it is refused, and units are still accepted.
  • The first time you save a flavor, the camera suggests a numbered name such as "Juicy Flavor 1".
  • The camera shows a notice instead of a snapshot when no effect is applied to the text.
  • Applying a flavor closes the Flavor gallery.
  • Clicking an applied effect's tile while the Flavor gallery is open closes the gallery and shows that effect's settings.
  • Opening Colors, the Flavor gallery or the Face view closes the effects drawer.
  • [+] and fx close the Colors, Face or Flavor gallery view first.
  • The ⋯ menu no longer has an Effect options submenu: you add effects from the drawer, and you edit or remove them from the effect name's own menu.
  • Every effect's settings now have even margins, and checkbox labels sit centered on their boxes.
  • Plaid's segment chips and the color chooser now show each segment's own color.

Fixes

  • Editing By color in Colors could leave the artwork unchanged after clicking Done.
  • Applying Halftone or Pattern Slice to black text could make the letters disappear, rendering white on white.
  • Snapshots taken on Intel Macs came out with the wrong colors, such as black faces turning transparent red, pink sides and pale pictures.
  • Shadowpuppet snapshots came out washed out.
  • Snapshots of Drip, Speed, Cracked and Glitch artwork that reached past the artboard were refused as too big.
  • Flavor thumbnails could cut off one side of a wide word, such as a 3D extrusion to the left or trailing Speed lines.
  • In Split Face, typing a Gap that crossed zero only updated Gap fill color and the related settings after you reopened the panel.
  • The Show flavors checkboxes in the Flavor gallery had no effect.
  • The first time you opened the Flavor gallery after relaunching, the flavor count included flavors that weren't shown.
  • Opening the Colors view hid the applied effects and left a blank strip in their place.
  • An invalid hex code in the color sheet stayed in the field as if it had been accepted, and now reverts to the color's own hex with a note.
  • In the Face view, [+] shifted the panel slightly instead of opening the effects grid.
  • The [+] icon could stay lit after you left the effects grid, and an empty frame lit Options instead of [+].
  • With only Wobble applied, the panel acted as if no effect was applied.
  • On Windows, the "Flavor applied" notice showed a garbled character and the flavor's file path instead of its name.
  • On Windows, clicking [+] after using a flavor reopened the Flavor gallery instead of the effects grid.
  • On Windows, Reset 3D could bring back extra extrusion layers that the frame had once had.
  • On Windows, 3D's Slope style menu showed blank by default and could show the wrong item after a pick.
  • On Windows, adding a stroke or a 3D layer didn't show a new row of settings.
  • On Windows, the 3D Stroke checkbox didn't follow your clicks.
  • On Windows, the per-stroke enable checkbox in Strokes stayed unticked and ignored clicks.
  • On Windows, Split Face showed wrapped angles without their sign and moved the angle even when you didn't change it.
  • On Windows, the Cracked Gap slider didn't work and the Gap box couldn't reach its full range.
  • On Windows, clicking Cracked's Impact point checkbox moved the impact point to the edge.
  • On Windows, Party's four Random mode menus weren't drawn.
  • On Windows, Plaid's "Add pattern swatch" showed as a checkbox instead of a button.
  • On Windows, Sticker's Line settings and the Gap settings for bands 2 and 3 now change their own settings.
  • On Windows, grayed-out controls still responded to clicks.
  • On Windows, a second click on ⋯ didn't close its menu.
  • On Windows, Aura's Unpaint note ran off the right edge of the panel.

To update, close Illustrator, run the new installer, then open Illustrator again. Your license carries over.
