What's new in JuicyType 0.9.5.14

September 24, 2026 · Beta · macOS and Windows

JuicyType 0.9.5.14 brings a new color chooser, effects on shapes and groups, Draft and Final render modes, and a Windows panel that now matches the Mac. It also includes a long list of fixes from beta testers.

Panel

  • Clicking any color chip now opens the color sheet directly, with the swatches in its lower half, an eyedropper, and HSB as the default model.
  • The color sheet shows a live preview on your artwork while you dial a color, and Cancel puts the artwork back without leaving anything in Edit > Undo.
  • HSB joins CMYK, RGB, Grayscale and PANTONE in the color sheet, and all models stay in agreement as you edit.
  • The color sheet shows before and after as one bar, puts the New swatch tick beside the name, and folds the PANTONE area behind a disclosure triangle that remembers its state.
  • The color sheet's Cancel and Done buttons now span the full width of the sheet.
  • A new Swatches eye in the color sheet shows or hides Default swatches, Other color swatches and Gradients, remembers your choice, and turns pink while anything is hidden.
  • The applied effects strip hides while the color sheet is open, which leaves more room for the sheet.
  • The Colors view lists every color your applied effects paint, By color (one line per color, with its name, chip and Edit link) and By effect (with Face fill first).
  • Clicking a chip in the Colors view's By color list opens the color sheet for that color, so a pick or a new color replaces it everywhere it is used.
  • Tick two or more colors in the Colors view and "Edit multiple colors…" opens H, S and B sliders that nudge the whole set relative to each color's own values.
  • Each ticked color gets its own new swatch, so your originals stay untouched.
  • The New swatch tick decides whether an edit makes a new swatch or updates the existing one everywhere.
  • Hovering the grayed-out new-or-update choice explains why it is settled.
  • Every row in the Colors view now names which color it is, for example Repeat start top, Aura color, Bevel color 1 or Colorize 2, instead of a bare "Color".
  • Neutral colors now read as a gray percentage, White or Black instead of four CMYK numbers.
  • The Colors view lists only effects that are switched on.
  • The Colors view shows the 3D Slope only when your 3D style actually uses it.
  • The Colors view leaves out wall shades that simply follow the face, until you point them at a swatch.
  • Changing or undoing a color now updates the rest of the panel to match the artwork.
  • Deselecting the text leaves the Colors view, and selecting that text again brings it back.
  • Effects can now be applied from the panel to a rectangle, compound path or group, and each piece keeps its own fill and stroke.
  • Cubes, Party! and Bevel are marked "works on type only" and are unavailable when a shape is selected.
  • Knockout is now a popup with None, Knockout text and Mask text; Mask text shows the object below only inside the letters.
  • A new Face only tick for Knockout and Mask text: when unticked, the whole effect (3D, sticker and all) becomes the hole or the mask.
  • Knockout now uses the closest path or group below that actually overlaps the text, rather than whatever sits next in the layer list.
  • A [T] Face tile now leads the applied strip and holds the face controls: Face fill, case, Knockout and Raise.
  • "Show face options" hides the face controls you don't need, and its label now reads "Options".
  • The applied strip now fits six compact tiles per row with the name under each icon, and the current effect's name shows in pink bold.
  • Hovering an applied tile underlines its name, and clicking the name opens a menu to edit, disable or enable the effect.
  • Disabling or enabling an effect no longer moves its tile in the strip.
  • An effect made with an older version shows a chip on its tile and a note offering Dismiss or Update.
  • The header shows three view icons in place of the title, and exactly one is lit to show where you are.
  • The header's left three buttons stay available in the Flavor gallery and are disabled when nothing valid is selected.
  • The effects grid always shows three columns at full size, lists 3D first, and scrolls when it doesn't fit.
  • The [+] tile is gone from the applied strip; add effects from the top bar instead.
  • With nothing applied, the strip says "Add fx to the selected text," and with nothing selected it points you to the Selection tool (V).
  • Settings now opens in the panel body, and the ⋯ menu offers actions such as "Remove all effects from text" and an Effect options submenu.
  • A new command in the ⋯ menu turns a live JuicyType object into finished art, with Outline type and Expand appearance options.
  • Window > JuicyType is now a single menu item.
  • The Flavor gallery shows each flavor's name under its tile.
  • In the Flavor gallery, a successful apply closes the gallery and opens the settings.
  • The Flavor gallery's "Show flavors: Mine / Default" filter hides either group.
  • A new "Use actual object colors" tick in the Flavor gallery applies a flavor's recipe while the object keeps its colors.
  • Saving a flavor now opens a card inside the panel that suggests a name.
  • For an object that is already tied to one of your flavors, the save card offers Update or Save as new.
  • A saved flavor confirms itself with an "Added to your Flavor gallery" bubble, and an open gallery shows the new tile right away.
  • The starter flavor thumbnails have been rebuilt so they keep their original colors.
  • The Share button is gone from Flavor gallery items.
  • Units now sit inside the value boxes, and every box is wide enough for a number and its unit.
  • Sliders in each effect now start and end on one line.
  • Effects have even left and right margins, and section headers are larger.
  • The reset mark now appears only on rows you have changed.
  • The panel follows Illustrator's light theme, and white icons are redrawn dark so they stay visible.
  • In the welcome tour, clicking anywhere on the message advances it.
  • The first tour message has a "Skip tour" link, and Esc also skips.
  • The tour's steps follow what is actually on your artwork.
  • A first-launch welcome shows where to find JuicyType, with "Don't show this again" ticked by default.
  • Share feedback lets you choose Feature request, Bug or Feedback.
  • Share feedback hides the screenshot preview as soon as you untick Include a screenshot.
  • The build and render-speed row is now pinned to the bottom of the panel.

Windows

  • The Windows panel now opens from Window > JuicyType > JuicyType and lays out every effect exactly as the Mac panel does.
  • The header shows all seven icons, including a working Colors view, Flavor gallery and Add flavor.
  • The [T] Face tile leads the applied strip and opens the face controls.
  • A pinned footer shows updates, feedback and your license status.
  • Color chips show the color actually on the artwork and open the new color sheet.
  • New color… lets you make a color with a name, RGB or CMYK channels, hex and a spot option.
  • You can type into value boxes, and number steppers work as they do on the Mac.
  • Rows appear and disappear on the same conditions as on the Mac.
  • Strokes bands, Sticker bands and Plaid segments each get their full set of controls.
  • The effect menu (•••) offers Remove, Reset, Set as default, Restore factory defaults and saved effect presets.
  • Controls show the Mac's tooltips.
  • Windows now has license activation with the same keys and status line as the Mac, and the activation screen has pink buttons without the in-panel trial form.
  • Windows checks for updates on its own and from ⋯ > Check for Updates…, and shows Download, What's new and Not now.
  • Share feedback, Snapshot and crash reporting are available on Windows.
  • Effect icons in the grid now draw at the right size, and Direction buttons match each other.
  • Warnings now come to the front instead of hiding behind Illustrator's window.
  • Shadowpuppet is not offered on Windows yet.

Speed

  • Draft and Final render modes are switched with the eye in the panel header, and switching re-renders every JuicyType object in the document.
  • JuicyType switches to Final before Export and Print.
  • Every effect renders faster in Draft, and Drip and Shadowpuppet are noticeably faster.
  • Wobble combined with Strokes, Sticker or 3D renders noticeably faster.
  • When renders are slow, JuicyType switches to Speedview on its own and shows a message explaining Speedview, its outline and the eye.
  • Speedview now switches on only after renders stay slow twice in a row, instead of after a single slow render.
  • Automatic Speedview can be turned off in the ⋯ menu.
  • You can show or hide the Speedview outline around your text and choose its color: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Red or Gray.
  • The Draft outline now surrounds thin stroked lines and hairline shapes too.

3D

  • A fresh 3D starts with a shallower extrusion.
  • Turning 3D off and on keeps your depth.
  • Repeat extrusion adds copies of the extrusion.
  • Repeat extrusion's Color ramp grays out the extrusion color chips, since the ramp sets those colors.
  • The gap you set between repeat copies now stays the same when the face or strokes are raised.
  • The geometry controls now read Direction, Perspective (formerly Focal length), Tilt, Boom and Push.
  • The Push tick now lines up with the other ticks.
  • The Mode popup now sits just above 3D style.
  • A raised face and the 3D extrusion now render as one consistent body.
  • Gradient and Comic slope styles now apply to raised stroke walls the same way they apply to the letter.
  • Raised strokes now step cleanly along the receding walls instead of forming a staircase.

Split Face

  • Part 2 now offers Clear, Leave colors (each piece keeps its own paint) or a fill color.
  • A new Gap wall color chip colors the walls the gap opens through the 3D body.
  • Roundness now works like Gap: one slider with a lock, and separate Round top and Round bottom sliders when unlocked.
  • The divider controls now read "Shift divider line center" and "Divider angle".
  • The axis that runs parallel to the divider is now grayed out.

Cubes

  • Apply per cube repeats Split, Slice or Shape inside each block instead of across the whole word.
  • The Apply per cube ticks are grayed out while their effect is not applied.
  • A knocked-out letter is now a clean hole through the block and overrides the face color and face raise.

Shape

  • Margins is now one slider with a lock, and unlocking it shows separate Left and Right sliders.

Aura

  • Aura can now fill the artboard (the new default) or use the shape below.
  • Round corners range from square to an oval that fills the artboard.
  • New Wave (with Ridges and Ridge size) and Twirl options have been added.
  • The Spacing slider now runs the right way: higher means more space, and existing documents look the same.

Shadowpuppet

  • A new Wall shade setting puts the floor or the wall outside the lamp's light into shade.
  • Out of light is hidden while Light pool is off.

Party!

  • Letter spacing now looks even to the eye, so round and pointed letter pairs no longer sit too close or too far apart.
  • The spacing slider now runs the right way: higher means more space, and existing documents look the same.

Strokes

  • "Face in front" now lives in the Strokes section and shows only when it can change the order.

Glitch

  • On logos and shapes, Glitch now keeps each piece in its own colors instead of covering the art with one flat color.

Drip

  • On logos and shapes, Drip now keeps the art's own colors instead of washing them to gray.
  • The Drip slider now reads "Sloppiness".

Cracked

  • On logos and shapes, each shard now moves as one piece, so the art's colors stay together.

Install and update

  • The Mac installer now finds Illustrator wherever it is installed, including a second drive, ~/Applications or a renamed folder.
  • The Windows installer now finds a relocated Illustrator 2026.
  • Beta builds now check for updates every three hours instead of once a day.
  • Check for Updates… is available in the menu, and new versions appear as a notice in the panel footer.

License

  • The activation screen links to the website to start a trial or buy a license, and its buttons are JuicyPink.
  • The license line shows your version.
  • A lifetime beta license reads "Beta · lifetime", and Renew is hidden on lifetime licenses.
  • Deactivate now asks before it proceeds.
  • License details open from any view.
  • During a trial, the footer shows messages as the trial nears its end.
  • Using a license on too many machines now shows a message about seats instead of saying the key is not recognized.
  • Usage reports described in the privacy notice are now sent from release builds, and each carries your license ID but never your key.

Fixes

  • Changes made in the panel were sometimes missing after you saved and reopened the document.
  • A new user could not find where to enter the license key because the activation screen did not appear.
  • The Mac installer could stop with "Adobe Illustrator 2026 not found" when Illustrator was in a custom folder.
  • Dragging the JuicyType effect inside the Fill, or between Stroke and Fill, on a rectangle in the Appearance panel crashed Illustrator.
  • Setting a swatch color on a Sticker band crashed Illustrator and reset the effects.
  • Editing a Plaid color or thread made the face disappear.
  • Sliders ignored the first click until you had edited a number.
  • A value typed into a box left the slider knob where it was.
  • The ø reset mark waited for the render instead of following the value as you changed it.
  • Numbers with units could be cut off in value boxes.
  • Undo changed the artwork's colors but not the Colors view.
  • Adjusting several ticked colors at once changed only one of them.
  • Replacing a color from the By color list reached only some effects, and chips did not repaint.
  • Picking a color on a chip did not update that color's name or the By color list.
  • Nudging one of your swatches made a new copy of it each time instead of adjusting it.
  • Nudging saturation on grays turned them red.
  • Two new colors could get the same name and end up sharing one swatch.
  • Typing a swatch name the document already had recolored that swatch everywhere, even with New swatch ticked.
  • The Face fill could go missing from the Colors view.
  • A 3D Slope could be left gray after its neighboring walls were recolored.
  • The color menu's used colors included colors the effect no longer used.
  • Raised stroke swatch colors were lost after switching away and back.
  • Mask text left thin gray seams where letters overlapped.
  • The Knockout row did not appear until you toggled Options.
  • The starter flavors were missing on a fresh install, and many of them could not be applied.
  • Applying a newly saved flavor applied the previously saved one instead, or gave a different result on other text.
  • Flavor gallery item buttons could not be clicked.
  • Remove all effects left the face color on the text instead of restoring its original fill.
  • Party!'s Overlap row did not gray out or come back when Auto space or Walls match face was toggled.
  • Halftone's Feather was cut off in a straight line at the edge of the letters.
  • Cubes split words at wide letter pairs, as if there were a space.
  • Wobble could make a simple font read as a very complex one.
  • Previewing fonts from the font menu on text with raised strokes could keep Illustrator busy for a long time.
  • Strong Wave and Twirl in Aura could make shapes cross over themselves.
  • The panel jumped when you selected or deselected text.
  • The effects grid could be briefly cut off or hidden under the applied strip when you added an effect.

To update, close Illustrator, run the new installer, then open Illustrator again. Your license carries over.
