What's new in JuicyType 0.9.5.7

September 19, 2026 · Beta · macOS

JuicyType 0.9.5.7 rounds off the 0.9.5 beta series with a Draft render mode for fast previews, a Windows build, a reworked Colors view, and a long list of fixes reported by beta testers. Every effect now records the version it was applied with, and a tile shows a chip when the art was made with an older one.

Speed

  • Speedview gives the panel two render modes, Draft and Final, switched with the eye in the header, and switching re-renders every JuicyType object in the document.
  • Export and Print switch to Final first, so what leaves the document is always the full render.
  • Draft draws every effect with a lighter outline, and Drip, Shadowpuppet and Wobble take much faster Draft paths that keep the same drips, the same cast shadow and the same wobble.
  • A render that runs long switches you to Draft and says so in the footer, and going back to Final by hand arms it again so it never nags twice for the same object.
  • The automatic switch only fires on sustained slowness, not on one slow render, and it can be turned off from the ⋯ menu.
  • Draft can draw a dashed Speedview outline around the text, with Show Speedview outline and a Speedview color of Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Red or Gray.
  • The first automatic switch shows a dismissable message explaining Speedview, the dashed outline and the eye.
  • Strokes, Sticker and 3D combined with Wobble are noticeably faster in Final as well, with identical results.

Windows

  • JuicyType runs on Windows: the panel opens from Window > JuicyType inside Illustrator, with an installer and a signed uninstaller.
  • The Windows panel has the same popups, ticks, buttons, padlocks, range sliders and effect sections as the Mac panel, and rows show and hide on the same conditions.
  • Value boxes accept typing: Enter, Tab or a click away commits, Esc reverts, Up and Down step by 1 and Shift steps by 10.
  • Color chips show the color the art really has and open the same swatch menu as the Mac, including the document's swatches and gradients.
  • License activation on Windows works exactly as on the Mac, with the activation screen while unlicensed and a status row once licensed.
  • Shadowpuppet is not offered on Windows.

3D

  • 3D now comes first in the effects order.
  • Repeat extrusion repeats the extrusion in spaced copies, and while its Color ramp is on the layer Top, Side and Slope chips grey out with a tooltip saying the ramp sets them.
  • The geometry rows read Direction, Perspective, Tilt, Boom, then Push blocks, with Focal length renamed Perspective and the Push tick lined up with the other ticks.
  • The Mode popup sits just above 3D style.
  • Turning the 3D section off and back on keeps the depth you set.

Cubes

  • Apply per cube repeats Split, Slice or Shape inside each block instead of once across the whole word, with each tick greyed while its effect is not applied.
  • Knocked-out letters are punched holes through the block all the way to the back, and they override Face color and Face raise.

Split Face

  • A new Gap wall color chip beside Gap fill color colors the walls the gap opens through the body, which used to be automatic.
  • The divider controls are headed "Shift divider line center", Angle is now Divider angle, and the axis parallel to the divider greys out.

Shadowpuppet

  • Wall shade runs from -100 to +100 and shades the floor (negative) or the wall (positive) outside the lamp's cone in the shadow's color.
  • Out of light is hidden while Light pool is off.

Aura

  • Aura takes the artboard shape by default or the shape below it, and Round corners runs from square to an oval that fills the artboard.
  • A star aura gains Wave, with Ridges and Ridge size, and Twirl.
  • Aura adds Text fit, Alternate and Bubble opacity controls.

Strokes

  • Fill on top moves into the Strokes section as Face in front, its first row, and only shows while it can reorder the face against flat stroke bands.

Party!

  • Letter spacing is optical: it judges the average clearance between two letters rather than their nearest points, so a pair touching at one tip no longer sits far apart while a round pair jams.

Plaid

  • A sett too dense to build draws flat instead of building an enormous pattern.

Wobble

  • Wobble gains an Edge texture control.
  • Pour is hidden for now while its shape is worked out.

Panel

  • The Colors view shows two lists on one screen, By color and By effect, and each row says which color it is, such as Bevel color 1, Repeat start top or Aura color.
  • The Face fill leads the list under its own title, because it is the color of the artwork itself, and editing it makes a swatch like any other unnamed color.
  • By color folds every place that paints the same color into one row with its name and chip: pick a swatch on the chip to replace it everywhere, or click Edit to change it in an inline editor that isolates the row while you work.
  • Tick any number of colors in By color and move them together with H, S and B sliders, and each ticked color gets its own new swatch so the originals stay untouched elsewhere.
  • The color editor is on one grid, with the before and after colors as one bar and a New swatch tick that decides whether the edit makes a new swatch or updates the existing one everywhere; the greyed choice explains itself on hover.
  • Creating a new color previews live on the art as you dial it, leaves nothing in Edit > Undo, and Cancel puts the color back.
  • The new color sheet adds an HSB model beside CMYK, RGB, Grayscale and PANTONE.
  • Every color popup starts with Edit, then New, then the colors this art already uses, then the rest, and neutral grays read like "46% Gray" instead of four channels.
  • Walls and Raise panes left on Auto follow the face and stay out of By color, while a wall you have pointed at a swatch is listed.
  • Knock out is a popup with None, Knockout text and Mask text; Mask text shows the object below only inside the letters, and unticking Face only makes the whole effect the hole or the mask.
  • The header carries three view icons (fx options, Add fx, Color) instead of the Applied Effects title, the icons are larger, the selected view lights in Juicy magenta, and the three stay in place in the Flavor gallery while the selection decides whether they are live.
  • The effects grid is always three columns and scrolls when it does not fit, so every effect stays where you expect it.
  • Section headers are bigger with the effect's on/off checkbox beside the name, and a "Options" tick on the Face fill row shows or hides Fill on top, case, Knock out and Raise.
  • The revert mark only shows on a row you have changed, and the rule under the top bar is lighter and sits lower.
  • The [+] tile has left the applied strip, switched-off effects go last and read brighter, and the empty strip says "Add fx to the selected text" or names the Arrow tool when nothing is selected.
  • An effect applied with an older version shows a chip on its tile and a note with Dismiss and Update.
  • Juice Bar and Flavor Library are now the Flavor gallery, with Show flavors: Mine / Default, a Use actual object colors tick that applies the recipe but keeps your colors, and new icons; the Share buttons are gone.
  • Settings takes the panel body, and the ⋯ menu keeps actions: Remove all effects from text replaces Reset, an Effect options submenu, Check for Updates, and the automatic Speedview toggle.
  • Share feedback offers Feature request, Bug and Feedback, with a screenshot preview only while Include a screenshot is ticked.
  • The welcome tour is restyled with centered magenta-outlined bubbles, and the first launch shows where to find JuicyType with Don't show this again ticked by default.
  • Window > JuicyType is a single menu item with no flyout.
  • Undo now reaches the panel, so the settings and colors it shows follow what Undo put back.

Install and update

  • A beta build checks for updates every three hours, a stable build once a day, and Check for Updates… is in the menu.
  • A new version shows a notice row in the footer, and dismissing it is remembered.
  • An uninstaller for Mac and Windows writes a report to the Desktop and then removes every trace of JuicyType.
  • JuicyType runs on Illustrator 29.

License

  • During a trial the footer shows timed trial messages with their links, which update with the update check.
  • The activation screen is reworded, the trial starts on the website from one clickable line, and Buy a license opens the pricing page.
  • A lifetime beta license reads "Beta · lifetime", Renew is hidden on a lifetime license, and Deactivate this machine asks first.
  • The license detail opens from any panel mode, and the license line carries the version.
  • Activating on a machine over your seat count now says so instead of "not one we recognize".
  • Release builds send usage reports, one per completed render, carrying the effects applied, render mode, machine chip, memory and core count, and your license ID (never the key); the privacy notice on the website lists what is sent.

Fixes

  • Changes made with the panel were lost when you saved, closed and reopened the document.
  • Setting a swatch color on a Sticker band crashed Illustrator, and the effects were reset on recovery.
  • Changing a Plaid color or thread made the face transparent.
  • Turning 3D off and back on reset the extrusion depth you had entered.
  • Raised stroke swatch colors were gone when you came back to the section.
  • Repeat extrusion copies were spaced closer than the gap you typed because a raised face or raised stroke ate into it.
  • The receding walls of a raised stroke stack stepped in a staircase where a plain letter's wall stepped once.
  • Gradient slope style was not applied to raised stroke walls, and Comic was applied differently there than on the body.
  • A raised face met the 3D extrusion with stepped slivers, and the rim of the outermost raised stroke did not extrude.
  • Per-cube Split colored each block separately but cut one gap across the whole word.
  • Cubes split a word at wide letter pairs in a fat display face as if they were word spaces.
  • Halftone Feather stopped dead in a straight line at the edges of a big letter.
  • The Aura Spacing and Party! spacing sliders ran backwards; higher now means more space, and existing documents render as before.
  • Aura loops crossed themselves under strong Twirl and Wave on star shapes.
  • The Ribbon Banner stroke row overlapped its label.
  • Previewing a heavy font with raised strokes could run on for well over a minute instead of stopping.
  • Undo changed the art but the Colors view kept listing swatches Undo had removed.
  • Replacing a color from a By color row reached some effects and not others, and no chip repainted.
  • Adjusting several ticked colors changed only one of them and lost the ticks.
  • Picking a color on a chip changed the chip but left the row name and the By color list stale.
  • Nudging one of JuicyType's own swatches made a numbered copy instead of adjusting it.
  • The By effect list kept showing old colors after a change in By color.
  • The Face fill was missing from the Colors view, and the view listed colors of switched-off effects and of walls no longer painted.
  • Two colors nudged together could both get the same new name and end up sharing one swatch.
  • Typing a swatch name the document already had recolored that swatch behind a New swatch tick that promised a new one.
  • A saturation nudge turned ticked grays red.
  • Edit from a chip's menu in By color split the color instead of editing the group.
  • The inline color editor drew its slider rows on top of each other, and the By color and By effect headings were missing.
  • The Colors view stayed up after the text was deselected.
  • Flavor gallery item buttons did not respond to clicks.
  • Opening the face options a second time laid the panel out wrong.
  • Opening the effects drawer briefly cut off the grid or ran it under the applied strip.
  • The Speedview on and off icons were reversed, and the fx options button did not close the effects drawer.
  • The panel did not notice a new beta released within the same day.
  • The activation notice bubble clipped its own text.

To update, close Illustrator, run the new installer, then open Illustrator again. Your license carries over.
